When first responders arrived, they saw a small figure struggling in the freezing water — the child’s desperate cries echoing through the air.

Officer Ryan Hall, one of the first on scene, didn’t hesitate. Without waiting for backup or rescue gear, he sprinted toward the pond and broke through the ice with his bare hands. “I could hear the kid screaming,” Hall later recalled. “I knew we had seconds, not minutes.”

Chief Anderson of the local department called the rescue “a true act of bravery.”
